Fourth Joint Symposium
"Differentiating the impact of climate and socio economical changes on natural ecosystems in Mongolia: prevention vs. adaptation"

Date: March 6 to 8, 2017.

Venue: Mongolian University of Life Sciences, Khan Uul district, Zaisan - 210153, Ulaanbaatar, Mongolia.

This is the fourth Symposium since the first one started in 2008. The bi-annual meeting has been held consecutively in Morioka, Japan and Ulaanbaatar, Mongolia. The aim of this symposium is to broaden the collaboration between the United Graduate School of Agricultural Sciences (UGAS), Iwate University and the Mongolian University of Life Sciences (MULS) such as promoting joint research studies and short-/ long-term students exchange between the constituent universities in UGAS and MULS.

Background:

In the last 30 years socio-economical changes in Mongolia have been coupled with continuing global warming (MARCC report, 2009), which in many cases have become indivisible. Recent research has focused on studying the impact of climate change on the environment rather than using a more integrating approach that includes the anthropogenic factors. Therefore, the presentations are aimed to deal with environmental issues while promoting development in areas such as agriculture, forestry, husbandry systems, clean air, water management, environmental policies and governance among others.

We expect to have presentations from Professors and students not only from these two institutions but also from foreign scientists from institutions and agencies interested in presenting their research or project in Mongolia.

The sessions for the symposium are the following:

1. Forest and grassland dynamics under drying environments.
2. Developments of agriculture and husbandry in Mongolia.
3. Application of bio-technology for agriculture in cold environments.
4. Hydrological processes.
5. Grazing patterns: past and present.
6. Social changes and its impact on the environment in UB.

Please submit your abstract before 17.Dec.2016. More than 10 participants will be present their PPT. Therefore, please present your presentation within 15 minutes.

Please conduct us if you interested.
